A little about us . . .
The Reno Moms Co-op Preschool was started to fulfill a need in the
Reno area for stay-at-home moms who want their children to
experience a preschool environment without paying preschool prices.
The Co-op is run entirely by moms. The program runs three days a
week (M-W-F) and each mom commits to working one of those days.
The other two days she is free to drop her child(ren) off and take some
time for herself knowing that her child(ren) are in a safe, caring,
environment. Our goal is to ease the burdens of full time motherhood
and provide a positive social and educational environment for children
in the community who may not otherwise be able to attend preschool.

The idea to start this Co-op started with Karen's desire, and lack of
funds, to enroll her daughter in a preschool program. She is a teacher
turned stay-at-home mom and has approximately 10 years experience
working with children as a daycare teacher, preschool teacher and
reading tutor. She has also had some experience as the assistant
director of a preschool.

The
Reno Seventh Day Adventist Church has graciously given us two
rooms to use and allowed us access to their facility which includes an
enclosed playground, kitchen, bathrooms and full gym. This has really
been a blessing because it allows us to operate a professional
program at very little cost. Our only expenses are supplies and
upgrades to our rooms.

As we are not a licensed program we do not charge for our services
however we do ask that all parents contribute equally to the program by
donating time and money or supplies. Each parent is asked to donate
$75 a month to the program or supplies equaling that amount.

We start accepting children around age 2 1/2.  If your child can follow
simple instructions and sit quietly for 5 - 10 min for circle time he or
she may be ready for preschool.  Since all children are different, we ask
that you schedule an observation day (
contact us page) so we can
evaluate each child individually.

We have adopted the Mother Goose Time curriculum and implement it
in combination with Zoophonics.   We are very excited about these
programs and have found much success with them. Mother Goose
Time includes a theme for each month.  (Some past themes are: Pet
Parade, Blast off, Texture Detectives, and Sounds of Spring.)  This
theme creates the framework for our activities, crafts, and Show and
Tell or Field Trips.  We also focus on one letter each week with
Zoophonics.  You can check them out and learn more about them by

In an attempt to keep things more structured we have recently switched
to three main teachers: Soupha
, Jennifer and Jodi.  They all have a
background in education and are wonderful examples to the children
and moms alike.  This allows the children to adjust better and have
more consistency throughout the week.  Meanwhile the moms just
assist the teachers on their 'work day'.
